It felt kinda tame overall, more then it could've been. I don't blame them/Del Toro for shooting for a PG-13 rating, but for instance both X-Men movies were PG-13 and they seemed more violent than this. Aside from that, the plot became too cheesy near the end, most of the dialogue wasn't clever enough, and the CGI monsters were - in my opinion - neither interesting nor good looking.
But I have high hopes for Hellboy 2. I'm thinking that with the characters down on paper and their introductions out of way, they can focus entirely on fixing the problems of 1.
