you know, you don't need an apostrophes to make nouns plural, only to make them possessive.

It's almost incredible that a person can be this stupid.

No, seriously. I'm using stupid in the sense of genuine mental deficiency, rather than just as an insult. But it's meant to be insulting too.

It's not about carelessness. Careless grammar means words are out of order sometimes, typos aren't caught, and spelling errors are ignored. Something like missing an apostrophe ("Janes Addiction") is careless, as long as it only happens occasionally.

This is just plain stupid. Doing it wrong for thirty-odd years, being made aware, probably on countless occasions, that it's incorrect and looks bad, and continuing to do it.

I wonder, if Mr. Fowler's parents had given him a fork to eat cereal with as a toddler, would he still be eating like that?
