Magnets don't really effect hard drives. Your HD has a really strong magnet insde it already, so if that doesn't fuck it up, small speakers won't.

Just move the speakers away from the monitor until the distortion disappears, and you should be fine. You can't really break the monitor with magnetic interference as far as I know; you're just disrupting the electron flow. It shouldn't effect LCD monitors, since they work completely differently.
