I watched it, and it got more than a couple chuckles out of me. It has a lot of heart, and it's obvious it's an unambitious project made by friends for friends. But it's sprawling, and would have benefited from being a bit more focused. The whole bit about the criminal friend is probably a swipe at 90210-like shows where high school dramas are taken way out of proportion, but it has no real impact on the rest of the narrative, so it just distracts from the storylines that are carried through. There are other examples of this as well, you might have been better off just focusing on the overblown emo stuff. Like have another two crying montages with crossfades and angst pop.
Also, I'd advise you to pay a bit more attention to sound and lighting in your next project. The file I wateched was obviously compressed, but it's still clear that just about everything was shot with available light and with no wind screens. Buying some cheap 1000W lamps and learning how to use them to create solid and naturalistic lighting, as well as paying attention to sound quality, could increase your production values by a whole lot.
Let me know if you make anything else, I'd love to see it.
Oh, and was that Retro Kat?
