Well, expecting the nominee to be anything other than a Christian conservative, especially since we have a GOP White House and Senate, might've been pointless.
The fact that this guy is so young (relatively speaking) is the biggest thing about him. He could potentially be the deciding verdict on huge cases like twenty years from now.
Is he conservative? Yeah. But he also seems to be pretty qualified and competent. I think this guy will get approved, but his approval will be sort of the set standard for when Renhquist retires. Already, the talking heads on Fox have said "well, this time we got the level-headed jurist, but NEXT time we'll get the real conservative!" I don't think they realized the humor in what they were essentially saying.
Christian groups will call this guy satisfactory, Left-wing groups will call him qualified but "questionable." I think each side will argue next time that this guy was their concession.
