That's an interesting question, because from what I had heard, only a collective 1/3 of Louisiana and Mississippi's active-duty guardsmen are in Iraq. Those numbers may be wrong.
The Sunday Washington Post had a very good, comprehensive, day-by-day account of the Katrina mess. One thing I took away from it was that more than simply bodies taken away in Iraq were the problem. Other things, like satellite radios for example, were of issue. Apparently Louisiana only has two, one of which is in Iraq. This made multiple-tracking of the storm's strength and landing time a little more difficult.
