It's not Big Boss. The patch is on the wrong side of his face.

The patch is just a special device that Snake can use as an interface during the game. The trailer shows him getting recon information on an infantry group that's passing by, showing a radar and general information. I believe it'll also allow him to see through the eyes of his little robot buddy.

If there is any twist, keep in mind Raiden is back. You SHOULD spend some time playing as him. I'll be kind of upset if you don't.
