 That's an incorrect use of the word. Legitimate is from the Latin legitimus, meaning lawful. Definition 4. 'Authentic; genuine: a legitimate complaint', is using authentic and genuine in the sense of rightful.
 To legitimately hate someone would mean you hate them for a good reason. It doesn't mean you genuinely hate them.
