The secret is to not fight for acceptance. Fighting for acceptance makes you look retarded, which in turn reduces your chances of "fitting in". Even if you were the sharpest wit in the world you'd be going against the juggernaut of consensus opinion which, guess what, probably isn't going to change. That you need to prove yourself just shows that you need to feel accepted. Thus, people will like you better if you ACTUALLY don't give a shit, which isn't the same thing as saying "Yeah, I suck, go ahead and ban me for it!"
