Old Mar 2nd, 2006, 08:17 AM        India, US seal nuclear agreement
SmarterChild: NEW DELHI (Reuters) - India and the United States said on Thursday they had sealed a landmark civilian nuclear cooperation pact, the centerpiece of President George W. Bush's first visit to the world's largest democracy.

That's one hell of a visit, George, thanks a lot.

Would you rather they hooked up with China or Russia? Strategically, because of where India sits on the map, it makes a lot of sense.

One has to wonder though...wouldn't this offend our Arab allies more then questioning the ports deal?

India is poised to be the Democratic version of China. Washington has every reason to get in bed with New Delhi, Arab feelings be damned.

Yup, democracy has its perks. Maybe Iran and N. Korea should pay attention....

Who said it was?

It's still a move that will upset the Arab states.

Sorry, most people I come across that are discussing this or any India topic keep refering to Pakistan and Afghanistan as Arab nations.

If you are refering to is this gonna piss off OPEC, ya, but its no secret we've been looking into alternative energy resources for a few decades now. Hell, Bush, who many accuse of being a puppet for Big Oil, has sent billions in funding towards projects like hydrogen research.

Now, a big cartel like OPEC has to have some damned good bussiness minds working for it. That means they will find a way to make a profit on this.

Yeah I agree, I was making the same argument in the UAE thread. There's no bigger slam on the Arab states then when we talk about alternative fuel sources. That said, it's no secret that the Arab world would much rather see Pakistan, or Iran develop a "muslim bomb" instead of India. It also puts a damper on an intifada party in Kashmir.

Bush has been pretty friendly with Pakistan too, which I find funny because if we really cherish democracy we'd say something about a General who rose from a military coup..

Or Monarchies, which we also love. Our very own president is on a handholding, flower sniffing basis with the Saudi royal family.

So, Democracy has it's perks, but so does any other form of government that has a chance of making the richest people in our society even richer.

Oh, and Soylent Green? Made out of people.
