i agree. i love that duet. another great one with the two of them is "they can't take that away from me." i love it when louis calls ella "dearie." :P

i know what you mean about billie's voice, glow. she's got a tragic tone, kind of edgy, but at the same time a bit smoother than ella, most of the time, i think. ella was much more versatile, it seems to me, though maybe that was due to her much-larger reportoire.

have you heard of anita o'day? someone online turned me on to her a few years ago, and i was shocked i hadn't heard of her before. beautiful voice, sort of a mixture between ella and billie, possibly, but definitely in the same genre.

do you work on some of ella's tunes in your lesson, mle? i took voice lessons when i was a music major my freshman year of college, but i utterly detested it; i would've loved jazz much better than classical. in retrospect, however, it taught me a lot about breathing, which helped me get through many nights of singing with head colds. :/
