You've never actually watched anime, have you? For me, I can't really say I hate something until I try it for myself, no matter how bad the rumors are. Although what you've described is pretty much a recipe for Naruto, minus the mother rapings. However, there are plenty of animes and mangas out there that don't follow "regular kid gains superpowers and is somehow better than everyone", but there are also a lot that do.

The stuff I watch isn't usually considered conventional anime, mostly because those kinds bore the hell out of me. One example I keep pushing is Monster, mostly because it has a fucking awesome story if you can get past Nina crying about every damn memory she recovers. The art also doesn't go heavy on the big eyes and leather bustiers like I see in a lot of others, and takes on a more realistic feel, probably to reflect all the sadistic things that go on. I know it's kind of an uphill battle, but eh...it's what I believe :/
