At the beginning of the game, at the end of Pious' sequence, you have a choice between three artifacts to choose from that determines the outcome of the entire rest of the game and what the final boss is.
The red claw thing = Chattur'gha
The little squid thing = Ulyaoth
The green angelish thing = Xel'lotath
