So at the end there, is he suggesting we pay more taxes for our military or that we provide more manpower in the form of national service?

Frankly, I think my generation and the next would benefit from the latter, but any time the topic comes up on Capitol Hill it seems to get dismissed as a lame attempt to "make the rich people's kids fight our wars too".
