I think that's a bit overstated. The Catholic Church generally
has done a pretty good job of not picking favorites throughout the years (which is why it was outrageous in 2004 when Evangelicals were pressuring the American Church to deny Communion to Kerry).
Kicking out someone for being "pro-choice", while it has its political overtones, isn't political in the way he's referring to. The Catholic Church rarely let's candidates speak at masses. I've been one all of my life, and I've been in Churches all over the country, and I've never seen it.
Other denominations are less strict about that. My friend from North Carolina is a Southern Baptist, and she heard Republican candidates all of the time. She was
told to vote Republican by her minister.
