emu, can you explain how the probation system works? I have a somethingawful account, but I know better than to try to get a straight answer out of any of them.

and milhouse it isn't so much an inside joke thing that I have going with GW as it is youtube poop jokes, which I can understand if no one else here gets that sort of thing. in my circle of friends in maryland we're constantly making youtube poop jokes so I guess it bleeds heavily into my online writings.

It's pretty simple actually. Internet Cliches, extremely low content posts that add nothing to the discussion, memes, Chuck Norris shit, general thread shitting, etc. are severely frowned upon. Users are strongly recommended to read the rules of the forums which pretty clearly spell out what's acceptable and what's not. Those that are too stupid to read the rules or decided to ignore them find themselves locked out from posting for a random number of hours (mod's discretion).

I read SA regularly, and I feel that they have the best managed forums that i've ever seen but the 100,000+ users makes for one huge community. It's easy to get lost amongst the crowd.

To me, I-mockery is a bastard cousin of SA that refuses to learn that sticking keys in electrical outlets is not a good idea.

EDIT: This request will most likely get wall hacked to death but a Sports forum would be dandy.

True. I heard through the grapevine that even threads mocking furries are passé there these days. OTOH, these days only idiots hate furries.

I think it's because the folks at Something Awful finally realized that just because something is funny once doesn't mean repeating it a thousand times makes it a thousand times funny.

Y'all could learn a lot from them.

Or not.

Let's say there's a post by someone asking what this strange lump on their foot is and they have pictures. Let's say I respond to that picture with

KILL IT WITH FIRE

or something equally lame. A mod sees it and then the post is stamped with

(USER WAS PUT ON PROBATION FOR THIS POST)

and then my avatar is changed to a kitten in a jail cell and my title says I can't post for X hours.

I'm not saying we have to do exactly that but probations for stupidity is something I'd like to see.
