I would say that the guy is profoundly unbalanced and has only become more so. He found identity as a white black panther and now finds identity as a former lefty for all the same reasons. He's gratified by his crucading outsider role, he gets to be inflamatory and feel persecuted and actively endangered. It's the extremism that gets him, not the speciffics.
I strongly distrust people who go from one wild vicous fringe to the oppioste wild vicous fringe without crossing the middle ground at some point.
