I fit the hereditary profile for Lynch's Syndrome, which basically means that I have a 50/50 chance of getting colon cancer eventually. My cousin is only in her early thirties and she's already had a lot of signs that it'll hit her soon although it generally strikes in one's forties. It's surprising thus that my father has had several polyps found but so far nothing too bad has come up, since he's past the age that it probably should have killed him by now. He's always alluding to the fact that he doubts he'll live much longer, but he's mostly just shooting for a heart attack I think from the vantage point of my family's penchant for stoicism (obnoxiously missing from my mother). Notably, he was incredibly thin until his early thirties and then he just kind of decided to follow in his father's coronary footsteps toward destruction and at 51 I'm amazed he hasn't had his first heart attack yet.
