Well, it turns out it did, if you believe Wikipedia - it was dropped in 1908, when only two countries fielded teams. Apparently, it was brought back as a demo sport three times, but the latest was even before my time - 1948.
As for me, I really enjoy sculling and water polo. Bring on the games!
