When last in Canada, I saw my mate's teenage daughter dipping sausages into maple syrup. I thought this perhaps was a rebellious phase she was going through, so you can imagine how freaked I was was upon discovering this is the norm. And then seeing people have jam, pancakes, cream, salad and fried courgette (zucchini) bread all on the same plate. To me that's like having all your courses at the same time.
