Isn't the appendix completely useless? Like, we've evolved to the point where we don't need it, but nature's too fucking stupid to realize that and keeps handing 'em out like candy. Occasionally they'll become inflammed and burst. Fun!
What was it's original purpose? Does anyone even know?
