Look, the game was (to my understanding) made to be a more fast paced, action packed platformer to compete with the other platformer games out there. Most notably Mario. But up until after Sonic Adventure was released, it was never soley about going right as fast as you can and jump over the one or two enemies in your way.

Adventure was only two fifths running, and Adventure 2 was only one third. Also, the Genesis games were the LEAST fun when you were platforming heavily, since Sonic has shit handling in every video game (as opposed to Mario, who controls like a dream).

Sonic was always bad, but we forgave him because he ran fast and had did what Nintendon't.
