Uh, from what I gathered, it gives him an insatiable drive to kill as opposed to leading a normal life... so yeah, I think it'd qualify as a curse. That whole storyline came from part 6, where it's revealed that his curse is based on an ancient Druide rune known as "thorn". I'm sure there are more details about it online if you look around... that's what Google's for.
