Oh, I think there's plenty people who strive to look different from everyone else, either in an attempt to become a "leader" among their peers instead of a "follower", or just out of irrational pubescent rebellion against everything.

Usually you can pick them out because they just don't go far in enough in their different look, probably because they're scared or don't have an original bone in their body. Prime examples from here would be waterwitch and GothNAPrepsbody.
