It isn't. It happens all the time. And during my time in Basic, I was "that guy". Not only did I get that "friends" letter, I got it the same day I got the letter from her saying "happy birthday"...

Couldn't even assuage myself with alcohol.
When I was at WLC my friend saw my then girlfriend out at five AM with some other dude, hammered.
