I know a fairly strange person who took a briefcase to a semi-formal event because he thought it made him look more "professional". (This briefcase, incidentally, was empty.) This "professional" person also picks his nose in public when he thinks nobody's looking.
Come to think of it, he also voluntarily wears those shorts that marathon runners wear (you know, the ones that have a split right up the thigh to the butt and made of shiny fake-silk fabric?) on a regular basis...
