Did you know that old New York was once New Amsterdam? I can't say why they changed it, but I guess that people just liked it better that way.
It was originally settled by the dutch who called it New Amsterdam. Later they were mostly forced out by more English friendly settlers who changed it to New York because they didnt like the Dutch.
