Please. Do you honestly think that they didn't have spies? That they wouldn't have come up with a different plan (or had one already)? What about the damage the debris from the plane might cause?
Extra security at airports - I don't doubt they did put up extra security, but they could have just gotten around it anyway. I really doubt they put up a whole lot, though, because it was probably 1) considered an empty threat and 2) didn't want to cause mass hysteria.
Besides, we don't even know how much they knew about "hi-jacking". It could have meant a boat, car, tank, oil truck, helicopter, or any number of other things.
