He's right about Trout Mask Replica. It's music for people like you (who otherwise have very little tolerance for the avant garde side of progressive music) to show to your friends and go "it's wierd, isn't it? And I have it!". It could be Thrakkattakk by King Crimson, or it could be Tales of Topographic Oceans by Yes and you wouldn't know the difference.
And Neubauten are indeed an aquired taste.
