Compassion is not free when it is being taken out of my pocket.

It might be pennies off the dollar, but that argument can only be used so many times. With all the things the government does, those pennies add up.

Also, did you infer that I think I need welfare? I don't think that, if that was what you meant.

Welfare has, in my mind, failed. It just doesn't work. If - and that's a big if - both sides of the political spectrum ever try to make a compromise on the issue, I would suggest taking the money that is currently going to welfare and giving it to private charities. I feel they would be more efficient.
