It seems that Al Qaeda and Hamas were simply biding their time, and that they have their shit together better than most had come to believe, despite US and Israeli efforts to quash the respective troublemakers. Different reasons for their uppityness obviously -- for Hamas it's the "roadmap", and for Al Qaeda it's retaliation for the Iraq war.

Well, wait, we had to go to war with Iraq and draw intelligence away from Al Quaeda because among other things, Iraq had radioactive and fissionable materials and we were scared they might give them to al Quaeda, so we one the war but we didn't think about looting and when it begun we...
