White Pumpkin Pie M&M's
White Pumpkin Pie M&M's

A new entry from M&M's this season are these white pumpkin pie flavored candies. The packaging is great, what with the orange M&M candy bursting out of a pumpkin. Unfortunately, that's pretty much the only thing good about this. I'm not a fan of the artificial pumpkin pie flavoring in these at all, and they leave a seriously bad aftertaste in your mouth. Leave these ones on the store shelves where you found 'em.

Cookies & Screeem M&M's
Cookies & Screeem M&M's

Now these, on the other hand, are absolutely delicious! They really nailed the cookies & creme (er... "screeem") flavor, with a nice blend of dark and white chocolate. Combine that with the speckled patterns on the candies, along with the ghost and creepy "screeem" font on the package, and you have an excellent addition to the Halloween candies of 2017! Snatch 'em up while they're still around!

Jelly Belly Gourmet Giant Candy Corn
Jelly Belly Gourmet Giant Candy Corn

I stumbled on this little package and initially though it was just standard flavored candy corn in different colors and a larger size. Upon closer inspection, I realized that this pouch included two additional flavors: Chocolate and Cinnamon! The chocolate candies are okay, but it's the cinnamon ones that really take the cake here. If you've ever enjoyed Atomic Fireballs candies, these taste exactly like them, but with less heat. A totally unique candy corn experience for sure. I feel like the cinnamon overpowers all the other flavors, and I'd honestly love to see Jelly Belly release a pack of just this flavor in the future. Seriously good stuff!

Where's Wally? Halloween Marshmallows
Where's Wally? Halloween Marshmallows

In case you didn't know, Where's Waldo is also known as "Where's Wally?" in certain places overseas. These new Halloween marshmallows come straight from Japan and feature Waldo / Wally and a few other characters on the individual wrappers. While the marshmallows are typical enough, the packaging on the main bag features a fantastic illustration with loads of vampires, witches, skeletons, and other random monsters. As for Wally / Waldo - he's pretty damned easy to find if you ask me. He's on almost every individually wrapped package and he's right there on the center of the main bag. Still, nice packaging aside, these are just basic marshmallows with a generic shape, so I can only rate 'em but so high.

Snoopy Pumpkin Marshmallows

Another new treat from Japan, these festive pumpkin-shaped marshmallows with a slight orange tint are pretty nice. The pumpkin flavoring is just subtle enough, and works well with the marshmallow taste, rather than completely overpowering it. The packaging is wonderful too, featuring all your favorite Peanuts characters on the front and back of it, all hanging out in the pumpkin patch in various Halloween costumes. Now, are these the tastiest treats the Great Pumpkin has ever produced? No, but they are pretty damn good for marshmallows, so kudos to the Eiwa company on a fun Peanuts-themed release.

Spooky Treats Sour Candy Bottles
Spooky Treats Sour Candy Bottles

I gotta say, out of all the Halloween candies this year, this set of 5 sour candy spray bottles from Canada are some of the best looking ones in terms of package design. Not only do I love the slime-covered skeleton illustration on the box, but each bottle is shaped like a skull. I wish I could say the sour spray tasted good, but it just has that bad chemical flavor, without offering anything palatable. The chemical taste is so strong, it's hard to even discern the different flavors in each bottle. But hey, on the plus side, they sure do make for some nice display pieces. Come to think of it, they almost look like little skull jars filled with nail polish. I only wish they didn't taste like it too.

Monster Marshmallow Pop
Monster Marshmallow Pop

This is was a surprisingly tasty jumbo-size marshmallow with a monster theme. As you can see, it's a Frankenstein-green cyclops covered in slightly darker green sprinkles. The coating is a nice white chocolate flavor, and the cyclops eye is a crunchy, little piece o' sugar candy. I'm never a big marshmallow fan, but they really dressed this one up nicely both in terms of presentation and flavor, so it's well worth devouring.

Spooky Treats Halloween Popping Candy
Spooky Treats Halloween Popping Candy

Is the Spooky Treats brand from Dollarama knocking it out of the park this year with their packaging or what? Three oversized pouches, filled with Pop Rocks style candy, each containing a lollipop. The package looks features a long fence illustration with a pumpkin, black cat, and a ghost basking in the moonlight. The flavors are strawberry, green apple, and blue raspberry, and the lollipops are cherry flavored and (for some reason) in the shape of a big thumbs up. While the lollipop isn't much to write home about, it must be giving a thumbs up to the popping candy, because it's delicious and pops extremely well. As soon as you open your mouth, the popping sound on these is LOUD and super satisfying. If you can find this 3-pack, definitely pick it up, or get a friend in Canada to ship it to you. Without a doubt, one of the best candies of 2017!

Amos Gummy Brain
Amos Gummy Brain

This was obviously one of those "you're paying for the novelty item more than the candy" kind of items. In this case, you're getting a large, translucent green skull mug. Not bad at all. The mug is topped with a fairly large gummy brain candy, and to their credit, it's honestly not bad at all. The smell is quite good, and the gummy candy has a nice mellow strawberry flavor. And hey, once you're done eating the brain like a good zombie, you can wash it down with your favorite Halloween potion in your new mug.
