Went to a Roller Derby last night, and god damn it was really cool. I hate sports but I was cheering and yelling and screaming "GO FOR THE FACE". It was Hobart (Convict City) vs Launceston (The Van Demons), and Hobart lost horribly, but only because ninety percent of the match we had two or more people in the sin bin. I was proud.

Also, it didn't hurt that I was surrounded by gorgeous women, in the crowd and on the track.

Yes, Beggar's Night is a stupid Ohio phenomenon. I fucking hate that name. It's usually the Thursday before Halloween, but sometimes it's the Saturday. I think it's their way of keeping little kids out of the way of asshole teenagers and nefarious types on Halloween proper.

I ended up giving the 13 year old kid next door like 10 bags of candy, and there are a good 15 left. I was so disappointed.

We live near a retirement village filled with cranky old people who hate kids. One end of our street is young grandparents (40s and 50s) who are into it, and the other end is full of po' folks who are into it but only for the taking part, not the giving. So all in all there weren't that many houses giving out treats.

Still, the baby got a pretty good haul for a baby. And we were telling people we didn't need candy.

My favorite old Whos are probably The Mind Robber, Tomb of the Cybermen, and Genesis of the Daleks. But yeah, I think a lot of the oldies are insufferably dull, mostly because the stories for every serial could be told in about half the time they all take (although to be fair, I've only seen about 6, and most of them were the first and second Doctors so that might be early installment weirdness). It helps if you watch them stoned. Even then, there are a lot of points where I thought, "Goddamn, just get on with it;" The Cybermat deploying scene from Tomb is the first example that springs to my mind, they spend something like ten cocking minutes turning a bunch of robot lobsters on.

New Who is pretty excellent all around, especially after it broke free of the "cable-access production quality" feel that the 9th Doctor's episodes had. Steven Moffat is an insane genius and Karen Gillan is more or less the cutest person on TV.

Someone explain Dungeons and Dragons to me, briefly.

I think I understand the basic idea, a more free-form version of a board game that massive nerds utilize as a vehicle for storytelling, but I've not really grasped why it's a big deal. Then again, the furthest I've gotten in tabletop gaming is collectible card games. YuGiOh, specifically, which I played because my attention span didn't allow for productive games of Magic. Also, every single Magic game I ever played was completely one-sided, in which I'd manage to get three land cards and one monster out on the field before being utterly and embarrassingly annihilated.

Since I'm a massive fag and something of an emo I'd consider trying my hand at a game of Vampire: The Masquerade if the Old World of Darkness stuff wasn't out of print, if only to troll people by being a fishmalk or inciting fisticuffs inside fatally-enforced neutral zones.

I always get beaten by those lucky chaps that have the time and inclination to learn a billion game rules from a thick tome they always carry but never open. My car got hit 4 days ago by some old asian lady. She started blaming me because she merged into the side of my car and therefore it's obviously my fault. If your car gets totaled you can keep your car afterwords if you want. My car was totaled because the damage cost more than $100. I took the settlement they gave me and kept the car.

He also said that the insurance company would have to pay them upfront because of...something or other. The thing is the car's a '97 Corolla and in fucking nice condition (only 71,000 Miles) but when I told my mom she insisted that I'd never be able to buy a decent car with however much money I'd get (since I'm still working a crummy part time job trying to start my actual career). Oh, and my job's a good 25 minute drive so I kinda need a car...

The answer to your problem is the write in vote. You can vote for anyone you want. Go down there, write in anyone you want then go home. When someone asks you if you voted you can tell them you did without telling a lie. If they ask who you voted for you can always go with the classic "But then it wont come true!" bit or you could just tell them. I normally opt to tell them who I voted for because it usually pisses them off and the kind of people who bother you with this crap are the same kind of people who deserve to be pissed off. Best part is they cant cry about it without bitching about the very system they claim is so important that you take part in. Of course you could always not vote and just say you did the write in thing.

Steven Moffat's a definite improvement, though, his season's only really shitty episodes are Victory of the Daleks and the one with Van Gogh. Neither of which he actually wrote.
