When I was kid, in the place that I lived, you were either a Mortal Kombat player or a Street Fighter fag & you were not allowed to like, or even play, both.
Not getting an allowance from my parents meant I was forced to stand with the fat kids who spent all their money on candy. :(

I'm trying to crack down on random friend requests, but if you actually respond to this then I'll know it's true love.
But if you just want more random friends because your self-esteem is too low when your friend count drops below 600, I'll just kindly remind you that you have a pretty face and you seem intelligent enough to spell correctly, and from what I can tell your rack qualifies as "nice". That should be reason enough for high self-esteem!
hugs and kisses,

P. S. Do you really like my user pic?

http://www.camelspiders.net/large-camel-spider.jpg
Also, he was telling me about the Sniper Training course he took to get a promotion. Basically, you have three days to sneak up on your target. Your target is just a dude with binoculars in a lookout spot trying to find you. If he spots you, it's over. Everything has to be done really slowly.

Oh T-Rex, I remember the summer of 2003...that summer sucked. In the hottest parts of Switzerland it was up to 40 degress, and that was where I happened to be at the time, in a house without air conditioning. I sweated like a pig.
Okay, it wasn't quite that hot most summers, but we usually get around 25-30 degrees in the sommer. That's the norm, unless you're up in the mountains or something.

I saw a show on that. I would really enjoy doing that. I guess the spotter talks to a guy via a walkie talkie and has him go to the spot he thinks you're at and touch that spot with a stick and if you get touched you are spotted.

You know what I think would make millions?
A computer program made for expecting parents that takes potential baby names and runs them through a phonological analysis system. In the end, the parents would give a list of all the likely nicknames that could come from having that name, along with a chart of how damaging they would be if used and the likelihood of it being discovered by certain age ranges.
I'd call it "Virtual Playground Simulator".

"Man, you bisexuals have it so easy. I can't so much as admit to donating blood in this town because then people will know that I've never had a gay sexual encounter, and then they'll accuse me of being homophobic because I've never had anal sex with a dude. I'll be like, 'Sorry! My friend asked me a question and now she's got me thinking about it too:
If you were born blind, would you be able to see anything in a dream? Perhaps you wouldn't see a dog or a house, but maybe a series of abstract images? Also, If you became blind at an early age, would you have access to only the colours you saw when you had vision?
MetalMilitia
Apr 18th, 2008, 07:08 AM
ust because you've not seen something it doesn't mean you don't know what it looks like. A blind person probably has a pretty good mental image of what, say, a dog looks like from hearing them being described, touching them etc.
Once you know kind of what things generally look like your brain will fill in the gaps. If you consider some of your most vivid dreams you'll probably find that many of the places you go or people you meet are not taken from real life experiences but your brain still knows what they should look like from the range of experiences you've had throughout your life.
ADDED: The only thing which might be radically different from a non-blind person would be, as you say, colour because I don't know if you can really explain a colour without the frame of reference of other colours.
T-Rex
Apr 18th, 2008, 07:25 AM
Yeah, I can understand how a blind person would be much better at figuring out how something would look by feeling it, but being blind form birth would mean they have no colour references. If you can't colour something, how would you see it? Their dreams would be about feeling stuff?

I hope I get yelled at today for being slow about updating IU's earthquake page. 'Cuz, uh, I guess other people felt it too.
It's great that the implication in my mind is that you were kind of hoping that no one else would notice.

My friend asked me a question and now she's got me thinking about it too:
If you were born blind, would you be able to see anything in a dream? Perhaps you wouldn't see a dog or a house, but maybe a series of abstract images? Also, If you became blind at an early age, would you have access to only the colours you saw when you had vision?
i would imagine that if you had never had sight that the visual cortex in your brain would be kind of underdeveloped due to lack of stimulus :/

Well, when I go in to work at the Geology Department I typically have several assignments and I can just kind of pick at whatever I feel like. Since two weeks ago we had a seismology seminar, one of the professor's had been wanting me to pick up the pace with updating the program website. Every other day I end up screaming at people, "I'm NOT a seismologist! I don't WANT TO BE a seismologist!" then run crying down the stairs.

I like the seismology emails, when ever one happens somewhere interesting there is always a debate about how big the quake was. This morning as I check my emails half of them are proposals & then retractions on the size ofthe Illinois quake. One of the retractions was in all caps which makes me think they're hand written rather than bot generated. If so, that guy was pissed off.

Now I just imagine going to geology just long enough to destroy all of IU's seismograph documentation that it ever happened, that way my bosses won't know about it. At some point one of them would sit me down and tell me what I did wrong, and that he's mad, but that he still loves me very much and nothing can change that. I'll be grounded for two weeks, though, and at the end I'll tell Stephanie and Uncle Jessie that I'm glad they stood up for me..

A few weeks later, he was walking down a path (I think it was a small stretch of the Appalachian Trail) and he passed a few men who had walkie talkies and were wearing business suits, despite the weather and the bizarreness of wearing such on a hiking trail. A few minutes after that, Bill Clinton, then the President of the United States, passed him going the other direction and said, "well, hello Dr. Hamburger. My daughter's father just stopped by, and eventually brought the conversation around to his child and all the various things that seeing her entails. While I had prepared myself for a lot of things--he once tried to convince me to give her up to his parents--I really hadn't thought that he'd actually come out and tell me that he wants to legally give up his parental rights. I've attempted to explain to people that don't quite agree with you (ie my mother, who thinks I need to latch onto the child support issue like a starved bulldog) that insisting on child support leaves open the possibility that he'd ask for visitation as well, and I'm sincerely concerned about her safety while under his care, and for good reason. Having him gone forever... I guess I can't imagine saying that you never want to see your child again, but I think the option he's presented will be the best for her in the long run.
And I don't care about money, I care about her.

Well, how much do you need the money? Are you financially stable, or do you really need the money? And would it be even worth your time to force him to pay child support, or would the amount he could give be so small, as you said he quit his job, that it wouldn't even be worth it? Or would the extra lawyer fees probably be so high, that it'd end up costing more than you'd get from it? 'Cause if it would, yeah, sever the guy from your life as cleanly as possible.

It's not necessary to the point that it's worth the hassle of him. I guess we'll see on monday.
If he's never paid any support, you may be able to agree to terminate rights, get all the requisite documentation signed and notarized (I know it takes a minimum of 3 months in PA even when all parties agree (and longer when they don't, personal experience), but I don't know the law in NC), then refuse to grandfather the x years of no-support payments he's failed to make. But it might be more trouble than it's worth.
I'm in agreement with seemingly everyone else here, in that you will know better about how this will shake out after you talk with a good lawyer.
In any case, good luck on Monday! I hope it works out the best for you and your daughter.

ME is a pile of wank. They just took 98, broke it, added Spider Solitaire and released it.
I'm sure someone could install a copy of AIDS into your arse for free but it wouldn't make it any better.

It's a cover up. Of course everyone will trust him with their kid if he's donated to hospitals and whatnot! And if their child happens to come back as an empty husk, then he/she is probably better off like that, if Bill Gates did it! Damn Gates.
